The X Factor
New series. Dermot O'Leary kicks off this year's singing contest with auditions in London, Manchester and Glasgow, where a new format sees the acts perform in front of an audience as well as the judges. Returning on the panel to search for the next superstar are Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole - who mentored last year's winner Alexandra Burke. Highlights in the first round include Irish twins, a French waiter and a performance described by Simon as the best first audition he has ever heard.

Highlights include a 50-year-old Brummie with dreams of rock stardom and a 22-year-old Geordie woman who makes an impression on Cheryl. Presented by Dermot O'Leary.

The 100th episode, which also marks the first in a double bill of shows this weekend bringing the 2009 auditions to a close. Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue give their verdicts on hopeful singers in London and Birmingham, where highlights include celebrations for Cheryl's birthday, a prison teacher who dons stockings and suspenders in her desperate bid to get into Heat magazine, a care worker who used to perform alongside her recently deceased father and a couple whose relationship is tested when one of them does not come up to scratch. Presented by Dermot O'Leary. Continues tomorrow.

The contestants have one last chance to impress Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole in the final audition show before boot camp begins. The judges have seen some promising new talent this year, including Lucie Jones in Cardiff and Danyl Johnson in London, and will be hoping for one final batch of solo acts and groups that are good enough to put through to the all-important next stage of the contest. Dermot O'Leary hosts.
