I won't ever do an Amy!
BRITAIN’S Got Talent child star Faryl Smith speaks out
MEGA DEAL: Teen singer Faryl Smith
By Phil Taylor, 20/12/2008
BRITAIN’S Got Talent child star Faryl Smith spoke last night of her £2.3 million record deal—and vowed not to become a drug-addled diva like Amy Winehouse.
The 13-year-old is set for superstardom after signing the biggest recording contract ever given to a schoolgirl.
But the classical singer told the News of the World: “I’m aware of the pressures of fame and I will never be tempted by drugs.
“Amy has a great voice and she’s really successful but it’s all got overwhelming for her.”
Faryl was at the centre of a bidding war after finishing fourth but emerging as the star of the ITV talent show last May and is tipped to earn £20 million before she is 20.
Yet instead of joining show supremo Simon Cowell, she signed with Universal Classics and Jazz—the label which launched the career of her opera idol Katherine Jenkins.

However, she revealed huge fan Cowell was “absolutely fine” about her taking the opportunity of a lifetime.
Faryl is just a year older than Charlotte Church was when she signed her £1.4 million deal with SonyBMG 10 years ago after being discovered on an ITV talent show.
She said: “Obviously people are going to describe me as the new Charlotte Church because she used to sing classical at the same age.
“But she went over to the pop side and I want to stay as a classical singer.

“I liked some of her pop songs but I preferred her when she was the Voice of an Angel.” Most of the money from Faryl’s record deal will go into a trust fund until she is 18.
Faryl, of Kettering, Northants, added: “I’m shocked. I’ve never even had pocket money before! When I go into town with my friends, I ask Mum and Dad for some money and they usually give me it.
“But now I think they’ll say: ‘No, you’ve got your own!’”
